Elbow: Radiographic Anatomy - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson to review radiographic anatomy demonstrated on routine projections of the elbow. In another lesson, we discussed the anatomy of the elbow and which radiographic projections are routinely performed. So let's tie that information to the radiographs themselves. As a reminder, the routine radiographic projections of the elbow are AP, lateral, and medial obliques and lateral. Let's start with the first image. What projection is being demonstrated here? Let's take a look. This is an AP projection of the elbow. We know this because the bilateral humeral epicondyles are seen in profile and the radial head, neck and tuberosities are separated or only slightly superimposed by the ulna. The arm is fully extended because the olecranon process is fully seated in the olecranon fossa. In addition, the humeral ulnar or trochlear joint and the humeral radial joint are well visualized.
