Abdomen Sonography: Scrotum Vascular Pathologies and Abnormalities - Video Lesson

Welcome back to our abdominal extended ultrasound series. Today, we will identify some important vascular related pathologies of the scrotum that can alter testicular health and fertility. Ultrasound with Doppler is the first line imaging tool in evaluating scrotal vascular pathology because it provides real time information on both anatomy and blood flow. In this lesson, we will review the key vascular abnormalities of the scrotum, focusing on testicular torsion, bell clapper deformity, and varicoceles. Beginning with the most time sensitive emergency, testicular torsion is a urologic emergency that occurs when the spermatic cord twists, cutting off the blood supply to the testes. This can result in testicular loss if not corrected within four to six hours.
