Abdomen Sonography: Doppler Waveform Measurements - Video Lesson

Hey everybody, welcome back to today's lesson on Obtaining Accurate Measurements in Abdominal Sonography. This lesson focuses on spectral Doppler waveform measurements. This is critical content as understanding Doppler measurements is essential for accurate hemodynamic assessment and effective patient care. Remember, both color and spectral Doppler ultrasound allows us to assess blood flow within vessels. This is crucial because changes in flow patterns can indicate pathology such as stenosis, thrombosis, or organ dysfunction well before anatomical changes are visible. While in Color Doppler we can assess flow based upon the color map, in spectral Doppler we have to obtain measurements of the waveforms. We obtain Doppler waveform measurements in order to quantify blood flow velocities, assess flow direction, evaluate waveform morphology, and support clinical decision making. Quantifying blood flow velocities helps determine
