Hey everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on spatial encoding. This lesson focuses on the gradient axes, including the concepts of physical and logical gradients, their differences, and their significant roles in image generation. Understanding these gradients will allow you to understand the image production process. The MRI machine utilizes three physical gradient coils, each corresponding to the x, y and z axes of the space within the scanner. These coils create additional variable magnetic fields that modify the main magnetic field strength, b sub zero, at specific locations within the imaging volume in a linear fashion.
