Evaluation of coronary artery disease used to be the exclusive domain of interventional radiology, but CT imaging has become more useful in recent years. Coronary artery disease or CAD, sometimes called CAD, is narrowing of the coronary arteries, primarily due to atherosclerotic plaques. This condition can lead to myocardial ischemia and myocardial infarction. An atherosclerotic plaque is an accumulation of cholesterol and other materials that forms inside of an artery.
