CT Elbow - Video Lesson
Everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about the elbow as seen in CT imaging. We'll start with a volume rendered image. This is a volume rendered CT image of the left elbow. This is an anterior view. Notice that the elbow is not flexed. It's almost fully extended. Full extension of the elbow is usually the preferred position for CT imaging, but pain and injuries commonly make that impossible. CT imaging is very good at demonstrating the bony anatomy of the elbow. So that is the focus of this lesson. The elbow is a complex joint that is actually comprised of three different bones: the humerus, the radius and the ulna. The humerus is the long bone of the upper arm that connects the shoulder to the elbow. The radius and ulna form the lower half of the joint. The radius is on the thumb side of the forearm.
