CT Ankle & Hindfoot (Part 1) - Video Lesson

Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about the ankle and hindfoot as seen in a volume rendered CT image. This is a volume rendered CT image of the ankle and hindfoot. The term hindfoot simply refers to the posterior segment of the foot directly beneath the ankle. The ankle and hindfoot are commonly imaged together in CT. This is an anterior projection. The ankle joint is created by the cooperation of three bones, the tibia, the fibula, and the talus. The tibia is the larger and medial bone of the lower leg. It is the primary weight bearing bone of the lower leg and forms most of the articulation between the lower leg and the foot. The fibula is the smaller and lateral bone of the lower leg. It bears very little weight, but it serves as an important point of muscle attachment and contributes to the overall stability of the ankle. The articulation between the tibia and fibula is called the tibiofibular joint, or more precisely, the distal tibiofibular
