CT Pelvic Vasculature - Video Lesson
Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about the pelvic vasculature as seen in CT imaging. We'll start with a volume rendered image. This is a volume rendered CT image of the pelvic vasculature, in particular, the branches of the abdominal aorta that extend into the pelvis. The abdomen and pelvis are supplied by the aorta. At the level of the umbilicus anterior to L4, the aorta bifurcates into the right and left common iliac arteries. In this patient, the branches of the left common iliac artery are diseased and abnormal, so we'll focus on the right side. The common iliac artery almost immediately bifurcates into the external iliac artery and the internal iliac artery. The external iliac artery is the larger anterior branch and supplies the lower extremity. The internal iliac artery is the smaller posterior branch that supplies most of the external organs, as well as the pelvic wall and the buttock. The external
