CT Kidneys & Adrenal Glands - Video Lesson
Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about the kidneys and adrenal glands as seen in CT imaging. We'll start with a coronal view. This is a coronal reformation of the abdomen. It's been processed in the standard algorithm and displayed with the typical soft tissue windowing technique. The scan itself was performed with iodinated contrast in the portal venous phase. At this slice position, we can see both the right and left kidneys. Notice that the right kidney is a little lower and the left kidney is a little higher. This is completely normal. The right kidney is in the right upper quadrant bordering the inferior surface of the liver. The left kidney is in the left upper quadrant sharing that space with the spleen, the stomach, the pancreas and portions of the bowels. The kidneys are responsible for blood filtration and urine creation. In this image, kidneys are becoming bright with iodinated contrast. That's because the kidneys are responsible for filtering contrast from the blood. The
