CT Female Pelvis - Video Lesson

Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about the anatomy of the female pelvis as seen in CT imaging. We'll start with a sagittal view. The midsagittal view is very helpful for demonstrating the relative positions of the anatomy within the female pelvis. The anterior floor of the pelvic cavity is formed by the pubic symphysis. This is the union of the right and left pubic bones at the midline of the body. We can also see the urinary bladder, often just called the bladder. The bladder is a hollow muscular organ located on the floor of the anterior pelvic cavity that stores urine produced by the kidneys. The urinary bladder will always be positioned here directly adjacent to the pubic symphysis in both male and female patients. The size of the urinary bladder can vary considerably depending on the amount of urine retained in the bladder. The walls of the urinary bladder should appear thin, smooth, and uniform, as in this patient. Posterior to the bladder, we can see the vagina, a characteristic feature of the female pelvis.
