CT Bony Pelvis - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about the bony pelvis as seen in CT imaging. We'll start with a volume rendered image. This is a volume rendered image of the bony pelvis. We call this the bony pelvis to distinguish it from the pelvic cavity and the soft tissues of the pelvis. The central axis of the bony pelvis is actually a continuation of the vertebral column. It's formed by the sacrum as well as the coccyx. The rest of the bony pelvis is formed by two hip bones, one on the right and one on the left. Each hip bone is actually formed by the fusion of three bones. The ilium is the superior segment. The lower half of each hip bone consists of an anterior bone called the pubis and the posterior bone called the ischium. Each hip bone articulates with the femur. On the left side of the pelvis, we'll take note of some of the more specific bony features. The superior rim of the pelvis is formed on each side by the iliac crest. The pelvis articulates with the sacrum at the sacro
