Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about degenerative diseases of the spine. These conditions all involve the gradual loss of the normal structure and functions of the spine as a result of aging and arthritis. We'll be discussing six degenerative conditions plus one more spinal condition that's slightly different. These pathologies are: Degenerative disc disease Osteophyte formation Spinal stenosis Foraminal stenosis degenerative spondylolisthesis, facet joint arthropathy and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is not technically a degenerative condition, but this lesson is a good place to discuss it. We'll start with degenerative disc disease. Degenerative disc disease is the progressive breakdown of intervertebral disc due to aging, mechanical stress, or sometimes injury. The name of the condition is self explanatory.
