CT Carotid Pathologies - Video Lesson

Hey everybody, welcome back. In this lesson, we're discussing the two most common carotid pathologies demonstrated with CT imaging. We'll start with atherosclerotic stenosis. There are many potential causes for stenosis or narrowing of the carotid arteries, But atherosclerotic disease is by far the most common. Atherosclerotic stenosis is a narrowing of the carotid artery caused by buildup of atherosclerotic plaque often at the carotid bifurcation or proximal internal carotid artery. This is potentially a very significant condition, because the carotid arteries are two of the principal arteries supplying blood into the brain. If blood flow within the carotid arteries is blocked or reduced, the patient could experience a stroke. As with most vascular diseases, CT imaging of atherosclerotic stenosis requires the angiography protocol. In CT angiography, it typically presents as luminal narrowing with
