CT Facial Bones (Sagittal) - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about the facial bones as seen in CT imaging. This time, we're looking at sagittal images. In the graphic in the lower left side of the image, you can see this image is midsagittal. We'll start at the top of the face. This is the frontal sinus inside of the frontal bone. This isn't technically a facial bone, but the frontal bone does form part of the face. The inferior edge of the frontal bone articulates with the nasal bones. They form the bridge of the nose between the eyes. Inside of the nasal cavity, we can see part of the nasal septum. Specifically, this is the ethmoid portion of the bony nasal septum called the perpendicular plate. We can't see all of it because this patient has a rather crooked nasal septum that deviates outside of the midsagittal plane. Most of the middle third of the face is formed by the maxilla or the maxillary bones. In this view, we can see that the maxilla forms the floor of the nasal cavity, also called the roof of the mouth, as well as the entire
