CT Ethmoid Bone - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about the ethmoid bone as seen in CT imaging. We'll start with an axial view. This is an axial view of the face with the ethmoid bone in the center of the We're starting here because we can't really see the ethmoid bone on the surface of the cranium. So looking at a volume rendered three d image wouldn't be especially helpful. Notice that most of the volume of the ethmoid bone is air, which appears black in this image. That's because the most obvious and prominent feature of the ethmoid bone is the ethmoid sinuses, also called the ethmoid air cells. This is one of the paranasal sinuses. This thin flat bone is the perpendicular plate, which extends inferiorly to form the upper half of the bony nasal septum. The lower half of the bony nasal septum is formed by the vomer, a different bone, which we can't see in this image.
