CT Cranial Fractures - Video Lesson

Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about the most common cranial fractures observed in CT imaging. CT is very good at demonstrating cranial fractures. We'll start with linear skull fractures. Linear skull fractures are thin, straight breaks in the bone without displacement. In other words, there is a fracture, but the bones are not moved out of position and there are no fragments. They appear as narrow, dark lines. The image on the left demonstrates the characteristic appearance of a linear skull fracture. There is a clean break in the bone without fragments and without displacement. This fracture is affecting the left side of the frontal bone near the coronal suture. The brain window on the same patient demonstrates another injury. Linear skull fractures and any skull fracture can be associated with brain injuries such as epidural hematomas. The skull fracture in this patient has caused a rather large epidural hematoma. An epidural
