CT Ventricles & Cisterns - Video Lesson
Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about the ventricles and cisterns of the brain as seen in CT imaging. We'll start with an illustration. This is an illustration of the brain in the lateral position demonstrating the ventricles of the brain. The ventricular system is a series of cavities and passages within the brain filled with cerebrospinal fluid, abbreviated CSF. There are four ventricles in the brain. The first two ventricles are called the lateral ventricles. In this illustration, we're looking at the left lateral ventricle, but there is an identical right lateral ventricle on the other side of the brain. Notice that the lateral ventricles are quite large. They have several features that get special names. The front of each lateral ventricle is called the frontal horn because it protrudes into the frontal lobe of the cerebrum. The back of each lateral ventricle is called the occipital horn because this part of the cavity protrudes into the occipital lobe of the cerebrum. The lowest extension of each
