Hey everybody, welcome back. This lesson is about brain bleeds, also called hematomas or hemorrhages. We'll start by discussing subdural hemorrhages. A subdural hemorrhage is bleeding within the subdural space. Subdural hemorrhages can be spontaneous or the result of traumatic injury. A subdural hemorrhage could also be called a subdural hematoma. The term hemorrhage refers to the process of bleeding and the term hematoma refers to the collection of blood. Most of the time, hemorrhage and hematoma are interchangeable terms referring to the same condition. So don't let that confuse you. They typically present as a crescent shaped hyperdense or bright white collection on the surface of the brain. As we can see in this patient, This patient has a bright white collection on the right side of the surface of the brain. The blood is bright white because an acute or new hematoma is more dense than the surrounding brain matter. Notice the shape of this hematoma. It has a
